My go-to for stylish preloved baby and kids clothes…
I’ve written a fair few features on shopping preloved childrenswear over the past couple of years. There are quite a few places to both buy + sell now but Dotte is the only one that’s tempted me in as a seller and serial browser as well as a customer. Mostly thanks to its new, easy to use app.
Now I really can’t preach about shopping only preloved as I don’t. I’m a baby & children’s stylist + fashion editor as my day job so I see a LOT of cute and very cool kidswear from independent brands as well as on the high street, from designers, heck I even make supermarket purchases. I believe there’s a place and a time for everything. BUT I am trying to make better decisions and shop preloved a lot more than I have previously. Especially for my third and last child. I maybe felt I could justify it to myself a little more if I knew pieces would be handed down at least once… I’m also selling on more of both my own and my kids no longer loved or used pieces. I have my own preloved Instagram page, but I also use Dotte. It’s easy to do – all in the app (though you can use the website too) – and you get better prices for goods and more interesting brands than on other sites with less of a kid’s niche.
I have been gifted a few Dotte items to demo this – the look above would have cost over £100+ new. From Dotte, the Little Cotton Clothes romper I’d missed out on a few seasons back (in perfect condition) and Angulus shoes I’ve always loved (a little worn at the toe but still excellent) came in at £50. And now it’s a firm favourite look for my youngest. The best bit, I reckon both bits I’ll be able to resell again when she outgrows…
So how does it work? You’ll need to set up a quick profile to buy or sell. It’s parent to parent, or seller to seller. And Dotte take a 15% commission from sellers. It’s quite social, you can follow sellers if you like their style and view their ‘shops’ or just search by size, brand, etc using filters. They also have a donate & recycle scheme for items you can’t sell and a resale collective featuring brand collaborations with the likes of M&S & Clarks who then offer perks & discounts.
It’s an exciting, sustainable way to shop for affordable, cool baby & kidswear! We should all do it more…
