Get to know the lady behind one of our favourite Instagram follows.
Jen Guzman is a content creator, stay-at-home mum and – quite frankly – a queen of all things creative. We adore her whimsical, storybook styling and beautifully curated set-ups. Naturally, we wanted to get to learn more.
Jen, we love your Instagram account – it’s so beautiful, creative and inspiring. But tell us more about you?
“My name is Jennifer Guzman and I’m 29 years old. I live in a small town in Northern California with my partner, our 4-year-old daughter Kamila, and dog, Venus.
Before motherhood I worked in retail and have always had an eye – and a love – for styling and all things creative.
I’ve always loved planning, decorating, creating and dressing up – now that I’m a mom I pour all that into my daughter. I dedicate myself now to being a stay-at-home mom – it’s been an honour and joy to be there through every milestone and witness her growth, silliness, sweetness and creativity.”
Talk to us about motherhood…
“Motherhood is such a transformative journey and such an important role. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions but forever rewarding and evolving.
In this season of motherhood what I enjoy the most is joining my daughter in all the lovely kiddie things such as having ice cream at noon, building a princess fort, dancing in the middle of hundreds of bubbles, brushing doll hair, rewatching all the Disney classics, colouring, the glitter and sparkles, making mud cakes and decorating them with flowers from the garden, not caring about the mess when baking cupcakes, wearing crowns…
I hope she’ll look back and remember all the love and magic.”
Where do you get your creative ideas and inspiration?
“I’ve always been creative, my mom really encouraged that. We would do crafts together and I would watch her crochet and tend her garden. I think that’s why now I too enjoy gardening and flowers – it was such a huge part of my childhood.
Other things that inspire me are storybooks and fairytales. Vintage children’s toys, old Disney, all things enchanting and whimsical. I love embracing and exposing my daughter to creativity, old and new things.”
Let’s talk about Instagram? You’ve already worked with some beautiful brands – are there any on your wish list?
“My Instagram has evolved naturally. I’ve always enjoyed taking creative images and have used it as a kind of digital diary. It’s also been lovely to connect with other mums around the world who share similar interests.
And yes, it’s also opened doors to work and collaborate with wonderful brands such as Olli Ella, Banwood, Stapelstein, Nights by Wilder, Lamour shoes, Camp Hollow studio, and a few more. They all truly have been a dream.
I would love to work with Mini Boden, Spilled Milk, Konges Sløjd, Children Chic, Elma the label, Tutu Monde, Little cotton clothes and many more. I’m always left in awe when brands and artist choose me to showcase their products.”
Any tips for those wanting to get more creative at home or with their content?
“I love to thrift and buy unique second-hand items. I think that’s what truly makes a space YOU and adds charm.
Some of my favourite second-hand finds have been my daughters antique metal daybed, ornate frames, vintage Barbie’s, teacups, dresses and many more. I think that’s what brings old world charm into a space.”
What’s your favourite thing to create – and what do you love capturing most?
“I love to capture moments during play in my daughter’s room, cute outfits and moments outdoors, flowers and of course any creations I make for my daughter.
I love love love creating things for my daughter. Some of my favourites are her fabric puppet theatre and cardboard mini theatre. And I’m really into making paper puppets.
She also has a collection of paper crowns and cone hats I’ve made for her. For each birthday I like to make her a special birthday crown or hat. I hope it’s something I can continue to do as she grows, and I also hope to someday share my creations with others.”
